The religious outcome of actions is different from the objective result every action brings about. It is determined by the goodness or otherwise of actions. Goodness, in a nutshell, is the measure of benevolence embodied in each act. Badness is conversely maleficence of your actions. Don't hunt further on this account. Good will beget good, bad will beget bad. Stretching the sequence backwards, one must have begun his journey some time earlier, each life-tenure accruing some good and bad. If the cycle is not terminated, it will continue and one will meet indefinite future lives, each adding to or subtracting from his total kaarmic pool. You already have a pool and it will go on increasing. This theory is relevant and beneficial because it gives the much-needed assurance and also safety that none other's actions will affect you this way or that way, no matter whether it is your parents, married partner or children. You or your own poorva karma is responsible for whatever you face now – good or bad. There is relief, confidence and a sense of reconciliation in this. It also takes away blame or sense of guilt. The question will, however, arise: Where is the end to this pool and the consequent lives? In fact, this is your concern now. The answer: Human life has the option to seek its way above this kaarmic pool and results. All that one has to do is to discreetly aspire for it. Seek neither good nor bad. Why? Both will repeat and make the life cycle endless. I don't want then either the good or the bad. Bad is distasteful and hurting, while good is insufficient to be a full goal or outcome. Such an option is quite in place and can be pursued, reinforced and fulfilled. The world is full of pairs of opposites, dvandvas. Even the higher and lower worlds are within the same hold. So, seek neither this worldly nor the otherworldly gains, as both fall short of your full requirement. Pin your attention on the transcendent. Is there any such thing? Yes, like the space and beyond, within which hover all the planets and heavenly bodies, within your own being reigns the transcendental realm. The outer one you may not reach. The inner is quite close, nay the closest to you. Neither doubt nor obstruction need be there in reaching it. |
