| Undergoing' and not 'Suffering |

The mind, which is able to undergo difficult and bitter plights with poise, is strong and stable. The feeling that "I am suffering the plight" will only tend to weaken the mind.
On the other hand, if your attitude is one of `undergoing' and not `suffering', the whole impact will be different. `Undergo' all experiences confidently, with readiness and acceptance. With every difficult incidence, your mind will then grow in strength, depth and placidity. This is, in reality, the mind's enrichment and promotion.
`Undergoing' is different from `suffering'. When you undergo something, the thing undergone – the object – assumes a secondary position, and the undergoing mind – the Subject – becomes the first. The result will be progressive, like mounting on a bull, a horse and an elephant – one of constant ascent.
Always your attention must be to undergo readily, not suffering unwillingly. Suffering wears and tears the mind. Undergoing enriches and empowers the mind.
Your greatness will be proportionate to how much you have `undergone' and are `ready to undergo' difficulties. Riches, property, family and friends will not enrich the mind. Mind's enrichment is in the hands of its experiences. |
